Miller Systems, one of Boston’s premier technology consulting firms specializing in the design and development of elegant online user experiences, today announced that it won the WOW Iron Chef of Web Design Competition at Macworld Conference & Expo in Boston, July 12-15, 2004 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC). Sponsored by The World Organization of Webmasters (WOW) and IDG World Expo, the WOW Iron Chef of Web Design Competition gave Macworld attendees a live, first-hand look on the exhibition floor at what it takes to conceive and create a working Web site.
The WOW Iron Chef of Web Design Competition featured four local Web design and development firms, including Miller Systems, competing head-to-head, against the clock and against each other. Monitors displayed to the crowd all keystrokes made by each team as they designed, coded and deployed a working Web site for the World Sleep Foundation, a startup non-profit organization. At the end of the competition, a panel of judges selected the Web site designed by Miller Systems.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won this WOW Iron Chef award—and to demonstrate to the WOW community, our customers, partners and prospects, exactly how we put our processes and philosophies successfully to work to create an elegant user experience in a high pressure situation, just as we do everyday on the job,” said Seth Miller, Founder, President and CEO of Miller Systems, Inc. “Overall, we enjoyed this challenging competition and the opportunity to flex our creative and consultative muscle against the clock and against some formidable opponents.”
Miller Systems team members included Seth Miller, Founder and CEO of Miller Systems (information and user experience architect); Eleni Stathoulis (Graphic Designer); and David Denis (Presentation/UI Development Engineer). The Miller Systems team very quickly came up with a site map and architecture that included important patient advocacy and community features including message boards, chat, “ask the doctor” and “find a clinic” features. A logo for the World Sleep Foundation was quickly designed and leveraged in a professional, aesthetically pleasing web site design. Finally, several pages of the site were produced, including the home page, a sleep disorder page, and a sample message board page – with functioning dropdown navigation – all within 4 short hours, on the public show floor at MacWorld.
“We would like to congratulate Miller Systems on its fine accomplishment,” said Bill Cullifer, Executive Director, World Organization of Webmasters. “Miller Systems’ work in this competition is a testament to the firm’s creativity, expertise and professionalism and should serve as an excellent example of how true professionals need to balance their team’s skill sets, with the ability to analyze a situation and produce a viable solution, and apply the technology and design techniques appropriately for the circumstances.”
